Top Seniors Earn Academic Accolades

Wilmington College recognized its “best and brightest” Sunday (April 21) at the 44th annual Student Honors Convocation and Senior Recognition Awards ceremony.

President Corey Cockerill said, “We are so very proud of the accomplishments of our students we recognize today” while Campus Minister Nancy McCormick added, “We celebrate in a community we have come to love.”

The event featured the selection of top seniors in academic areas, Quaker Impact Awards, Green Key Honor Society induction and senior awards in Student Life.

The academic awardees for Agriculture include: Agricultural Business, Delaney Weisland; Agricultural Communications, Megan Schwendeman; Agronomy, Rylee Kay Puthoff; Animal Science, Olivia Doll; Equine Business Management, Andrea Kelch and Sydney Flory; Agriculture Education, Paige Teeters; and Resource Conservation, Grace Rolfe.

Those in the Business Administration, Accounting and Economics area are: Accounting, Wyatt Lykins; and Business Administration, Mason Klamroth. Top seniors in Education are: Adolescent-Young Adult (A-YA) English/Language Arts, Cierra Bolender; A-YA Math, Cameron Pukey; A-YA Social Studies, Summer Dice; Early Childhood, Kameron Tomlin; K-12 Intervention Specialist, Ella Smith; Middle Childhood, Alysha Verhoff; Primary Education, Derek Larimer; and P-5 Intervention Specialist, Hillary Huffer and Sarah Free.

In the Fine Arts Area, Ella Jones is the top senior in Communication Arts and Alyssa M. Jenkins is in Theatre. For the Humanities, winners are: History, Levi Kouns; Peace Studies, Baylee Joy Martin; Religion & Philosophy, Mahamadou Sissoko; and Spanish, Kelsey Lauren Merriman.

Highlighting the Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Physics area are: Environmental Science, Taylor Powell-Abbinante; Health Science, Gabriel Swaisgood; Life Science, Elijah Bartus Brock, Haley Nicole Fulton and Milian Caitlyn Burns; and Chemistry, Alyssa Storer. Awardees in the Social Sciences are: Criminal Justice, Kiana Renee Chumley and Lilliann Williford; Food Science, Megan Schwendeman; Political Science, Kwame Acheampong; Psychology, Amy Emswiler; and Social Work, Hanna Kay Anderson and Shania D. Peters.

In the Sport Sciences, Nathan Oliger is the top senior in Sport Management, along with Nicholas Young and Taylor Mechlin for Allied Health and Emma Ashcraft for Pre-Athletic Training. Elijah Bartus Brock received the Dr. Elizabeth S. Kinzig Award.
