Fraternity Collects Nearly a Ton of Food for Sugartree Ministries

Lambda Chi Alpha Doubles Amount of Canned Goods Collected over Last Year The generosity of the Wilmington community was evident when a Wilmington College fraternity collected 1,840 pounds of canned goods and nonperishable items for a local food pantry. Members of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity canvassed more than 800 homes in the city in which they left a paper bag with a flyer requesting residents’ assist fellow community members in need by placing items in the sack for pickup a week later by the WC students. Kameron Rinehart, the fraternity’s vice president for external affairs, said the nearly ton of food they delivered to Sugartree Ministries two days before Thanksgiving more than doubles the amount they collected in their spring food drive. “We truly appreciate all the donations from the community, as well as the amazing partnership we’ve had with Sugartree Ministries over the years,” said Rinehart, who also thanked Kroger for donating the bags. He added the fraternity plans to expand its reach for its spring food drive by canvassing additional neighborhoods. Wilmington College holds community service and civic engagement as one of its defining values. Each year, student groups engage in some 20,000 hours of service in the community.
